English & Culture Classes

We invite you to join our free English and Culture classes!

Every semester, OISS hosts a selection of free English and Culture classes to help Rice students, scholars, and their spouses with acculturation to Rice and provide them with an opportunity to meet new people and practice their English language skills. These classes are offered to you by volunteers who enjoy meeting and helping Rice internationals, and receive no compensation except the enjoyment of meeting and working with you. Even if you feel confident in your English language skills, we encourage you to join us for a fun opportunity to make friends and find out more about American culture. These classes are available to Rice students, scholars, and their dependents.

English & Culture Classes for Spring 2024

The classes offered in the Spring 2024 semester are Advanced/Intermediate English Conversation, Beginning English Conversation, and Let's Chat.

  • Due to limited attendance, you may only sign up for one of the offered classes. Please sign up only if you know you will be able to attend the classes. If you later discover you are unable to continue with a class you signed up for, please notify OISS so we can assign that spot to someone else. Once a class is full you will no longer be able to sign up for it online.
  • Please note that you must be a current Rice student or scholar, or a spouse of a current Rice student or scholar to be eligible to join these classes.
  • The sign-up link is https://riceuniversity.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8v8rtaBuYN4uUOG and it will open on Tuesday, January 16th. Once a class is full, it will be removed from the sign-up link.
