Please select the response that applies to you

Please keep in mind that F-1 students have a 60-day grace period after completing their studies or approved period of OPT/STEM OPT.

If you are withdrawing or going on leave without completing your degree program, the grace period will not apply, and instead you must depart the U.S. within two weeks of your withdrawal date.

Please keep in mind that F-1 students have a 60-day grace period after completing their studies or approved period of OPT/STEM OPT.

If you are on OPT/STEM OPT and reach the maximum number of unemployment days permitted, the grace period will not apply, and you must depart the U.S. as soon as possible.

Please keep in mind that J-1 visa holders have a 30-day grace period after completing their studies, research/employment, or approved period of Academic Training.

If you have not yet done so, please make sure to discuss your transfer plans with OISS as soon as possible.

F-1 visa holders are eligible for a SEVIS transfer during their 60-day grace period, but may not transfer their SEVIS record after a withdrawal before completing their degree.

If you have not yet done so, please make sure to discuss your transfer plans with OISS as soon as possible.

J-1 visa holders are only eligible for a SEVIS transfer before the end date of their DS-2019, and are no longer eligible to pursue a SEVIS transfer during their 30-day grace period.

If you have not yet applied for OPT, you can learn more about the process at https://oiss.rice.edu/opt.

F-1 students remain eligible to apply for OPT until the end of their 60-day grace period.

If you have not yet applied for Academic Training, you can learn more about the process at https://oiss.rice.edu/AT.

J-1 students must apply for Academic Training before the end date of their DS-2019, and are no longer eligible to apply during their 30-day grace period.

If you have not yet done so, please submit proof of your change of status to OISS at http://bit.ly/oissdocs.

Acceptable documents include an Approval Notice from USCIS or a new I-94 record indicating the new status.

Departure from U.S.
I understand that if sponsored by Rice, my SEVIS record will be closed based on my departure from the U.S.
Please note that in most cases OISS is not able to keep your SEVIS record active after you finish your studies (including the period of authorized practical training) or employment, or if you withdraw from your academic program.

OISS will review your explanation and follow up with you to confirm the available options regarding your SEVIS record.

Please note that when your SEVIS record is closed, your OPT/STEM OPT work authorization will end immediately as well, regardless of the expiration date listed on your OPT/STEM OPT EAD.

Don't forget that you are required to submit an updated Form I-983 with your final self-evaluation, signed by your employer, at the completion of your STEM OPT.

For more information, please see https://oiss.rice.edu/OPTcompliance.

Don't forget that you are required to submit a final self-evaluation at the completion of your Academic Training.
