Original competition guidelines may be found below.

OISS is looking for a new logo!
$350 prize for the winning design!
To participate, you must be a current international Rice University student or scholar in good standing. The logo must be created by the author alone and all aspects of the Rice Honor Code will be enforced (http://honor.rice.edu). You may not use any copyrighted materials in your submission, all graphics must be your own creation. The logo must be submitted as an email attachment by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2018 (technical details below) to thm1@rice.edu. The email message should contain the author's name and contact information. You may also include a brief, optional artist statement with your submission, describing the vision and concept behind your logo design. No more than three submissions per person will be accepted.
OISS will have the right to edit, publish and/or otherwise duplicate any submission entered into the contest. The winning submission will be selected as the new official OISS logo, but any of the submissions may also be featured in OISS materials.
The submissions will be anonymously reviewed and scored by the OISS staff. The winning author will be notified no later than November 9, 2018, via email, and the new logo will be officially announced during International Education Week (http://oiss.rice.edu/iew) in November. The winning author will be credited and receives a prize of $350. We also hope to feature them in an upcoming OISS Newsletter.
Because OISS will be using the logo on various materials—e.g. website, handouts, T-shirts, official reports—it should comprehensively represent OISS and all internationals at Rice. (Please see http://oiss.rice.edu/about for the OISS Mission Statement.) In short, the logo should appeal to a wide population: undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, faculty, Rice University offices, departments, community partners, and outside governmental agencies.
Design Guidelines
- Should include the word "OISS"
- Should work when displayed with multiple logos
- Should work in both color and monochrome use (simple color palette preferred!)
- Should work in multiple sizes. For example, in handouts the logo may be featured in smaller size, but in a report the logo may be used as the single cover image. Please keep in mind that a complex and intricate design may not translate when reduced in size.
Design Themes
- Should comprehensively represent OISS and the international population at Rice University. (For example: a “globe” element would represent all countries; a national flag would not.)
- Should attempt to represent and reflect people-to-people international diplomacy. (Undertones of government discourse heightens the impact of international students and scholars, both at Rice and in their home countries.)
- Should successfully incorporate the following themes: welcoming, friendship, diplomacy, while maintaining a tone appropriate for official use.
Technical Requirements
- Image file must be in .jpeg format
- Image file must have a minimum resolution of 300dpi
- Image file must be submitted as an email attachment to thm1@rice.edu by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2018. The email should include the author's name and contact information. It may also include a brief, optional artist statement, describing the vision and concept behind the logo design.
Please feel free to contact Andy at thm1@rice.edu if you have any questions. Please double check with an OISS advisor to ensure that you qualify to participate in this competition and receive payment if you win.
