Information on the Visitor System

Visitors coming to Rice with 1) external funding (no Rice funding/formerly known as “complimentary”) and 2) access to Rice privileges, will be processed through the Visitor Portal.  Some of these academic visitors may be international, i.e., not a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “green card holder”). These nonimmigrant visitors will have a parallel intake process.  Completing the Visitor Portal process, as well as the steps outlined in Inviting an International Scholar, must be completed at least 90 days prior to scholar’s expected date of arrival.

Special Notes:

Please upload all of the documents listed on the J-1 EV webpage except the offer letter and PAF.  The Visitor Portal system will create an offer letter and in lieu of a PAF, HR approves the scholar through the Portal system.

If the scholar has not secured a bachelor’s (or bachelor’s equivalent) by the time of arrival at Rice, the Visitor Portal process will not apply.  Academic Departments will need to follow the Visiting International UG Research Students process instead.
