Rice Unconventional Wisdom

flag centennial OISS-sponsored Centennial Activities

Join us in celebrating Rice's 100th birthday!!  There are so many ways to celebrate Rice's birthday, below are three great options for our Rice internationals. Participate!!!

1) OISS Centennial Children's Book Collection: As part of celebrating the upcoming Centennial, we have started collecting children’s books and hope to receive 100 books from 100 different countries/languages to celebrate Rice’s international diversity. We invite you to celebrate together by donating a book from your country (new or slightly used in any size, color or age) to the OISS Centennial Children's Book Collection. If you have one to share, even if from your childhood ones, helping achieve the 100-book goal is greatly appreciated and we thank you in advance for your generous offer! Books are gratefully received throughout the semester at OISS. Please have a look at the list of the wonderful books donated so far.

2) 100 Valuable International Perspectives: It is also the OISS' goal for the Centennial Campaign to collect 100 Valuable International Perspectives (V.I.P.) in honor of Rice’s 100th year birthday.  We would love to hear your stories and experiences about the most memorable, interesting and/or best intercultural experience you have had at Rice University.  You can write about an experience that is funny, educational, sad, or happy or anything you would like to share with other Internationals.  We invite you to fill out a very short online survey about your intercultural experience here: http://bit.ly/CentennialVIPsurvey. We also have forms available at our office.  Every participant will be entered in our prize raffle for Rice 100th birthday prizes!

3) Centennial Poster: Finally, we are seeking 100 languages for our Centennial Poster. Students and scholars will have the opportunity to write Happy Birthday Rice in their own language on an flag postcard representing their country. These postcards will be available at OISS and OISS sponsored events. The postcards will later be displayed together on a poster as a celebration of Rice's Centennial as well as our international diversity.

If you have any questions about any of these Centennial projects, please contact us at 713-348-6095 or oiss@rice.edu.
